Therapeutic Massage (Soft Tissue Mobilization)
- What it is: Human touch has a way of bringing comfort and reducing tension in tissues that are stressed and strained. Therapeutic massage or soft tissue mobilization is an intervention involving manual or hands on based tissue release to improve range of motion, muscle response, and pain reduction. Whether the person presents with restriction or tightness limiting their full capacity for movement or they experience pain during functional activities soft tissue mobilization can be a great relief.
- Who it can benefit: Therapeutic massage can address soft tissue related pain and restrictions. These types of symptoms can originate from many sources including sprains, strains, overuse activities, compensatory movements, postural dysfunctions, and chronic/acute injuries. Soft tissue mobilization has been shown to decrease pain, improve tissue restrictions, increase circulation, reduce stress and anxiety, improve lymphatic drainage, and reduce muscle tension.
