Postural Correction

  • What it is: Our bodies were never designed to stay in one place for extended periods of time. Nor were they designed to deal with some of the rigors that we subject ourselves to physically that can compromise how we position our bodies. Postural correction is the means by how erroneous body positions or postures are fixed or reduced. From prolonged periods of sitting while at work or driving, to sustained and sometimes awkward positions needed to achieve specific tasks such as carrying heavy loads for work or school (think heavy backpacks filled with books), our awareness and ability to correct these malalignments is key.

Even poor sleeping positions and surfaces can contribute to postural deformities. With proper therapeutic movements and muscle re-education, along with an enhanced awareness the client can reduce these common complications of the body.
  • Who it will benefit: Many people who complain of low back or neck pain can suffer from a postural syndrome that they are unaware they have adopted. On other occasions a physician or other health practitioner enlightens the patient to their postural deficits, which is common with scoliosis patients. There are even further situations that people can be suffering with dull or vague aches and pains and can discover that these symptoms are secondary effects of their poor posture. Regardless of the situation that placed the patient in these compromised positions a correction with improvements in how the body is stabilizes and strengthened can be beneficial.
